Wests to Argentina: February Update

We had a tremendous year in 2013 when we think of the many churches we visited and the brothers and sisters in Christ that we met. We had the opportunity to share our ministry in 45 churches from Florida to California. All the way we attempted to put Christ first in all of our efforts and purposes. 2014, Lord willing, will be the same. This January we had the privilege of being in Michigan and Florida to present our ministry. Again, it was a time of meeting old friends and making new ones; a time of catching up with some people and learning from others.

Missionary Proto-col: Update from Uruguay

Mariano and Becky Proto are back on the field after a short medical leave. In their January update, they write about teen camp, a baptismal service, international missionary conference, and upcoming summer camps. Please pray for their ministry in Fray Bentos, Uruguay. The full update is available here.

Morrell Update: Heading to Argentina

Morrell

As many of you may know, it was our goal to be in Argentina by the end of this month. Although we have not reached this goal, we are encouraged by churches and individuals that have come alongside to  partner with us both prayerfully and financially. Our new goal for departure is this summer (which will be  winter there).  While we wait for the Lord’s provision, our hearts and  prayers are turned toward our co-laborers who are overburdened with the ministry in Chivilcoy. As the  ministries grow, it is more and more difficult to keep up with all the work of a church plant and a camp ministry.

Help Needed!

Dear Faithful Prayer and Financial Supporters,

The city of Antofagasta’s current population is estimated to be just under 400,000 people. The projected population in 20 years will surpass 550,000 people. Currently, the city has around 110,000 housing units (home and apartments). There is an extreme shortage of housing units and/or apartments to keep up with the exploding population growth. The newspaper mentioned that other day that there is a need for at least 50,000 new housing units to meet the needs of the growing city.

The photo above was taken yesterday in lower Coviefi (our neighborhood). There are several 21 story apartment buildings going up in and near Coviefi. During my morning walks I follow the construction progress and ask the Lord to help us meet the new families and individuals who are moving and will move into our neighborhood.

Please continue to pray for the Antofagasta church plant. Pray for an additional church planting missionary couple or family to join us in Antofagasta.

Wests to Argentina: January Update

WestFamilyPictureSmall

Much of our lives on deputation are spent looking in the rearview mirror (how many thousands of miles now?). Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are often viewed in the same way. As we forge on into 2014, they are just fading dates on the calendar. For followers of Christ, though, those days of celebration contain significant elements that become part of our “windshield” perspective of life. We look ahead and see Christ still.

Short-Termer Stephen Golden Update

12h5m57z

Back in August, we featured short-term missionary Stephen Golden in the Southern Sentinel. Stephen has been helping Bruno and Audrey Couto at the Paysandu Camp in Uruguay. He is pictured above at the camp in January 2014. Stephen shared his testimony at the recent annual missionary conference of GMSA. It was great to hear how God has called him to ministry. Pray for Stephen as he completes his short-term trip and considers what God has next for him.

‘Tis the Season for Summer Bible Camp

In the southern cone of South America where GMSA missionaries serve, summer is in full swing. No winter garb here!

If you want to take a break from the frozen tundra of the north some January/February, come to Chile, Argentina, or Uruguay and enjoy summer Bible camp, church ministry, building projects, and good Christian fellowship!

Youth Camp in Paysandu, Uruguay

From Missionary Bruno Couto:

Please pray for the 60 young people that are here this week as we study creation that they would dedicate their lives to the Creator of the universe.
